In a bid to draw larger crowds, the Oswego Village Board, led by Trustee Kit Kuhrt, has endorsed a plan to lower ticket prices at Venue 1012, the village’s prime outdoor entertainment spot located off Orchard and Mill roads. This decision reverses a previous hike in prices aimed at securing higher-caliber tribute bands, setting a new price point of $15 in advance and $20 at the gate to make events more accessible.
Julie Hoffman, the village’s events manager, advocates patience with the venue, suggesting that community event centers typically require three years to reach their stride. Venue 1012, now in its third year, has previously struggled financially, posting losses of $22,000 and $10,000 in its first two seasons respectively, falling short of its goal to be self-sustaining. However, popular village-sponsored events like Wine on the Fox and The Christmas Walk have significantly bolstered the venue’s finances along with the village’s special event funds, which also support the annual July 4th fireworks.
The upcoming season at Venue 1012 is packed with a variety of free and ticketed concerts aimed at breaking past attendance records. Notably, the venue hopes to attract a large crowd of Taylor Swift fans with the tribute band “Sparks Fly” performing for free on June 6th. Following closely, the nationally touring act Red Wanting Blue is set to perform on June 22nd, promising a robust musical experience.
Adding to the season’s allure, Hair Band Night on July 11th will cater to fans of iconic rock with hits from Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses, and other legends—another event offered without an admission fee. Continuing the trend, 7th Heaven will perform on July 20th during the annual VetFest, showcasing their dynamic “30 Pop Songs in 30 Minutes” act.
The schedule remains vibrant with Hillbilly Rockstarsz performing on August 6th, bringing to life classics from country legends like Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton. Later in the month, fans of harder rock can enjoy Sins N’ Roses and Electric Shock in a ticketed event on August 24th, followed by the ultimate Fleetwood Mac tribute by Rumors on September 7th.
As the season wraps up, Venue 1012 will host Mr. Blotto for a free show on September 26th, celebrating hits from The Grateful Dead and other rock icons, and conclude with a Breast Cancer Benefit Concert on October 12th featuring Billy Elton and Dancing Queen, a tribute to ABBA.
In a new policy aimed at enhancing the concert experience, attendees are now permitted to bring their own food to the venue, although beverages must be purchased on-site. This policy, along with the adjusted ticket prices and a star-studded lineup, is expected to make Venue 1012 a go-to destination, promising both vibrant entertainment and community engagement.
